Dragonlance Nexus News Issue #63: 5/14/2012

Greetings From the Inn

Greetings, friends and fellow companions, and welcome back to the Inn of the Last Home. Come in out of the rain, please. It’s a bit cold and dreary out, but there’s a warm fire inside, old friends, and good cheer.

So grab your hoopaks, and step through the Nexus. The portal to adventure awaits!

The Future of Dragonlance

I get asked quite often when the next Dragonlance book is coming out, or when we’ll see a Dragonlance RPG again. Truthfully, I don’t know. The Nexus has done much to drum up support for DL, and we’ve seen good response in WotC’s opinion polls. And yet, WotC has been a bit silent on the issue.

We know that WotC is planning on some Dragonlance content in Dragon and Dungeon magazines, which is good news! I know of a few people (self included) who have submitted queries, so keep your fingers crossed.

While the current situation may seem bleak in some ways, I refuse to believe that it means that Dragonlance is dead. There are many fan communities out there who remain active even when their property is not. How many of you are Browncoats? I’m a huge fan of Firefly and Serenity, and there are folks out there producing podcasts, audio dramas, and so much more. What about the other “Other Worlds” sites?

What I see as the next stage of Dragonlance’s life is an era led by the fans. What this means is that we need to take ownership of this world. While we may not own the intellectual property, we hold the world dear in our hearts. It is time, once again, to pave our own way.

The Nexus is a repository of Dragonlance fandom. It’s a collection of your love of the world of Krynn. We have fan art, gaming rules, recipes...you name it! The only thing we don’t allow is fan fiction, as WotC asked us not to have it and as that is a legal gray issue. Still, that leaves us with plenty of other materials to write, draw, and compose.

Nexus 2.0 Update

We’ve made a few accomplishments on the Nexus 2.0 project. First, check out the brand-new Dragonlance Canticle podcast! Tristan, Chuck, and I have been the main hosts of late, and we have a rotating crew who joins us on the discussion. Be sure to listen for an upcoming episode of everyone’s favorite bucket-head, Lord Soth!

Also, be certain to check out the Dragonlance Lexicon! The Lexicon scribes work tirelessly to categorize the people, places, and things that make up the world of Krynn.

Now that those two sections are done, we can move forward with the rest. What are you most looking forward to? What would you like to see in Nexus 2.0?

All For Now

That’s all I have for this time, Lancers. While these missives are not as often as they used to be, rest assured that the Whitestone Council is doing everything it can to keep Dragonlance alive. I hope you will too.

Be sure to stop by our forums and say hello, and tell us what excites you about the world of Krynn.

Long live the lance!
