Dragonlance Nexus News Issue #55: 1/10/2007

Greetings, friends and fellow companions, and welcome back to the Inn of the Last Home. As you can see, the inn is quite busy today. It's Nexus Day today, the day we celebrate the birth of the Dragonlance Nexus. Today, the Nexus is six years old.

So come join the festivities, but be sure to have your sword, your staff, or your hoopak at the ready. The portal to adventure awaits!

Six years ago was a very different time for Dragonlance fandom. War of Souls was in the works and there was much concern over the fate of Krynn after Vanished Moon. 3rd edition was young still. Jim Butler had announced that WotC would no longer be producing DL gaming products.

In amongst all of this were a few ideas that came together – the Whitestone Council and Tracy Hickman's proposed site, the Dragonlance Nexus. With the talents of Matt and the rest of the Whitestone Council, we built the foundations for something great. Yet we did not build this beast alone.

Much has happened since that time, and we have all been blessed to work with the fine folks at Sovereign Press/Margaret Weis Productions. I can't say what a great group they are.

Moreso, though, we have been blessed to work with a great group of fans. The Nexus' success is your success. Together, we have created something greater than what any one of us could do alone. As they say in Firefly, "We have done the impossible, and that makes us mighty."

So here's to another six years, and to all of the wonderful works we shall create – together.

The year ahead looks very promising, and there are fun things on the horizon. The Rise of Solamnia series just concluded with the release of The Measure and the Truth. Dragons of the Highlord Skies comes out this July, and Elven Exiles concludes this fall. On the gaming side, we're going to see Races of Ansalon, a dragons sourcebook, and the continuation of the Chronicles adventures with Dragons of Winter and Dragons of Spring.

As for the Nexus, we've got a lot in store. We're working on an adventure, will be converting more of the Fifth Age gaming characters and updating them to the modern date, and we have a very special project coming – a podcast! Be sure to watch for the upcoming Dragonlance Canticle, a podcast by the fans, for the fans. Plus, an upcoming special War of the Lance issue of the Palanthas Herald!

Our forums have many exciting topics, but one that has been particularly exciting for me has been some discussion of doing the Darklance alternate history with the True20 rules. True20, for those not in the know, is an alternate d20 gaming system developed by Green Ronin, and written primarily by Steve Kenson, who did some design work for Dragonlance during the SAGA years. It's very rules-light, and you only need a d20 to play. Keep watching the Nexus, as we hope to have some True20 conversions later this year.

That's it for now, my friends. I'll be back next time with more news from the world of Krynn.

Long Live the Lance!
