Windriders Rescue Steel Legion Agent
by Darcwulf, Staff Writer
Solace - Staging a daring daylight rescue, three elven Windriders rescued the Steel Legion agent captured by the robber baron, Samuval.
Late Misham evening the town of Solace was thrown into a commotion, when three large winged creatures with riders were seen circling in the skies above.
"People were running everywhere," said Jodie Winger, a half-elven cleric of Mishakal. "Shouting, screaming and worse pushing, which is never a good thing for people who live high off the ground. There still seems to be a great deal of fear of dragons in Solace, even after all these years. They weren't dragons though, they were griffons with elves, the famed Windriders. They descended slowly before landing on the outskirts of town, where they were met by Sheriff Mondar and that is when they sent for our assistance. The man they carried with them had been badly tortured, but thank the Blue Lady, I was able to heal him. His body at least, I've a feeling though, that he will carry the scars of his torture for many a day." All three of the Windriders were also treated for serious wounds.
The injured man once healed, identified himself as Sunil Houdan, a Steel Legionnaire and along with the lead Windrider they were immediately taken by the Sheriff to meet with the Steel Legion commander, Brigit Silvermane and Solace's mayor, Palin Majere. The meeting lasted all night, but as the sun was rising, the Herald was granted permission for an interview with Houdan.
"I'd been tortured for days both physically and magically," Houdan told the Herald. "Once they realised that I had little information of any use, Samuval ordered my execution. The man is without a soul and shows no mercy. I was be to manacled to the battlements and gutted, so I could watch the buzzards feast on my entrails as I slowly died. Thankfully I was spared this grisly fate when the Kyra Swiftwind and her Windriders rescued me. Those riders and their griffons are fierce and proud and it's thanks to their courage and skill I'm alive. Heedless of their own lives they took on Samuval's troops, even as countless arrows flew."
When asked if it was true that the dark dwarves in Samuval's employ had brought a secret weapon with them, Houdan replied with the following. "I'm afraid it's true. Samuval now has in his possession an Urkhan worm, one of the rock eating worms that were so pivotal in the escape of the elves from Qualinesti. And while the good news is that it is a juvenile, Samuval is in discussions with somebody who claims he can age the critter to an adult."
For the safety of Solace and the surrounding region, the Urkhan worm in Samuval's hands needs to be liberated or destroyed, before it can be magically matured to it's full adult size.
