Rebel Assault Repulsed.
by Kendermage, Staff Writer
Palanthas – A coalition of rebel forces has been repulsed by the Blue Partisans.
On Linaras, a coalition of rebel forces comprised of members from the Legion of Steel, Palanthas Spears, former City Guardsmen, and others assaulted the Emperor's Palace. Despite having more numbers than the Blue Partisans, the rebel forces were soundly defeated by the defenders of the Palace.
Utilizing weapons confiscated from the IMPS Guild, the Blue Partisans easily repulsed the assault.
"Those fools, were no match for our new weapons," one Partisan was overheard to say.
Dozens of rebels were killed in the ill-fated attack and several dozen more severely wounded. Most were casualties from a rapid fire crossbow invented by the IMPS gnomes, called the Ironbolt Crossbow.
"That crossbow is nasty," said Warrant Officer Jurgen Culver of the Palanthas Spears. "It was like the gods were raining crossbow bolts from the heavens. Several of the boys who accompanied me fell to the metal shafts flung by that thing. I saw guys from the Legion and the City Guard take those bolts too. As nasty as the crossbow was though, that Dragonbreath pack was even nastier."
The Dragonbreath is another invention of the IMPS gnomes confiscated by the Blue Partisans in a raid on the IMPS guildhouse. According to sources from IMPS, the Dragonbreath "breathes" globs of lava onto the wileder's enemies.
"The guys who took the iron crossbow bolts were the lucky ones," said Culver. "They died almost instantly. The guys who got hit by the globs of fiery goo survived for the most part, but they were badly burned and probably wish they would have died."
Spears High Command recommended against attacking the Palace in a frontal assault. Recently returned Colonel Donovan L'Inshere offered a few words.
"I told anyone who would listen that they were walking into a trap. My own troops were ordered not to take part in the attack; though several disobeyed orders and did so anyway. Would that I had the manpower to properly discipline Culver and those who followed him – curse their rashness. This assault gained us nothing and handed the Partisans a victory."
For the moment rebel forces have retreated from the Palace to lick their wounds.
Having witnessed the gnome weapons in battle firsthand it is now more imperative than ever that they be found and recovered or at least destroyed. The heroes now know where the weapons are, the problem becomes in how to get them. The heroes will need to enter the Emperor's Palace. Perhaps with the aid of man on the inside, the mission might have a better chance of succeeding.
