Nethosak – The 6th annual Clash of the Champions tournament in Nethosak is set to begin in two weeks time.

The Clash of the Champions is a series of competitions designed to pit the best of the Minotaur Empire's champions versus the best champions of the other races. It was instituted five years ago by Emperor Faros es Kalin at the behest of the Church of Sargas. The winner of the competition is named the Champion and given the Champion's Belt for one year and a prize purse of 10,000 Steel Hotaks.

Sources within the Imperial Palace say that delegates from many races have begun to arrive in Nethosak in preparation for the sporting event. One noticeable absence this year is the presence of an elven delegation.

"I can certainly understand their reluctance to send a delegation this year in light of what happened to their delegation the first year of competition," said Mycenos de Zakhan, First Hekturion of the 12th Legion and Master of Ceremonies for this year's competition. "Rest assured such dishonorable acts will not happen this year."

According to information in the Herald's Archives, the elven delegation sent the first year of the tournament was kidnapped by a sea ogre and sold them into slavery in Ogrebond. None of that delegation was ever heard from again.

"The elves have declined our invitation to compete despite our assurances of their safety," said de Zhakan. "In fact a missive arrived yesterday not only flatly refusing the invitation, but demanding restoration of the elven homeland as restitution for the deaths of their delegation. Preposterous!"

Emperor es Kalin is said to have crumpled the missive when it was presented to him, not deeming it worthy of a response.
