Emperor Markham to Convene Whitestone Council

Palanthas – Emperor Markham is going to convene the Whitestone Council.

"As Emperor of Solamnia it is my wish to convene the Whitestone Council next month," said Emperor Markham. "I have dispatched messengers to Gunthar, Mount Nevermind, and Northern Ergoth, as well as to the elves, dwarves, gnomes, and kender. I have even taken the step of inviting the minotaurs, as what we will discuss concerns them as well."

The Whitestone Council has not been convened in full since the War of the Lance.

Records on hand at the Great Library tell us that the nations of Sancrist, Solamnia and Ergoth have voting rights on the Council, as do the representatives of the gnomes and hill dwarves. The elves, mountain dwarves, and kender can advise the Council, but have no voting rights. However, this would mark the first time since the Council's inception that the minotaurs have been invited.

"We have several important issues to discuss; among them the signing of non-aggression pacts and the standardization of currency," said Emperor Markham.

"Standardizing the currency between the races would go a long way to stabilizing the economies of each," said Cairdre Pumicestone, Master of Winds of the Temple of Shinare. "Everyone benefits when you know the value of goods and services from one realm to the next. The Church of Shinare approves of Emperor Markham's attempts in this matter.

Upon hearing that Emperor Markham invited the minotaurs to attend, it is said that the Solamnic Knights Circle of Palanthas attempted to persuade him not to invite the minotaurs.

"Nations must talk to their enemies as well as their allies," said Emperor Markham in defense of his decision to invite the minotaurs. "At the very least we'll be able to lay all of our cards on the table, no matter what the end result."

According to Palace sources, the meeting will not be held in the Whitestone Glade as it has in times past; another sticking point to the Grand Knight's Circle on Gunthar. Instead the Council will meet in Palanthas at the Palace in the Senate Chambers. According to these same sources, Emperor Markham has ordered the Senate to recess for the duration of the Council.
