Dead Men Walking
by Darcwulf, Staff Writer
Palanthas - Palanthian authorities have received several reports of sightings of deceased persons walking through the streets. The incidents have all been at night and witnesses few, but the Guard is still taking it very seriously.
"We receive reports of the occasional sighting of undead, usually ghosts," said Morris Sheppard of the Guard. "When investigated these normally turn out to be just the results of too much drink or a piece of undigested beef. However there are too many similarities between the current sightings to just coincidences and the witnesses are decent respected citizens."
The Guard has refused to reveal the details of most of these incidents while they are still under investigation, however two witnesses have spoken with the Herald, the first was Dusan Gavrich, a silk merchant originally from Tarsis.
"I was heading back to my villa after Lady Morelia's Day of Life Gift party when a walking corpse stepped in front of my carriage. The smell was awful and it looked even worst, it had an eye hanging out. It shambled off into the fog and by the time the guard arrived there was no trace of it."
However the most credible witness was a knight of Solamnia.
"I had been assigned to assist a patrol of the kender catchers, while they were making a sweep through the city," said Kristoph Brandon, Knight of the Crown. "We were working our way through the streets around the docks where we were encountered a small riot, a kender had picked a sailors pocket and with tensions so high things had quickly escalated. While quelling the riot, I spotted my old friend Heinrich Yhronic. I tried to reach him, but by the time I got through the confusion he had vanished."
