Lady Dane Assaulted, Ghost Ship Blamed
by Darcwulf, Staff Writer
Palanthas - Alarming news has been leaked to the public concerning the ghost ship the Palanthas Star.
Word on the street proclaimed that a heavily laden Palanthian merchant vessel had been attacked and rescued by a ship of our navy. The rumors began when the Flaming Sword, the current flagship of the Palanthian navy, returned from its latest pirate hunting venture. Little cohesive information could be gained from the crew of the Sword as they are notoriously loyal to their Captain and he had ordered their complete silence on the matter. Verification of these rumors was supplied by the contentious and fractious noble Lady Harriet Walter when she described the encounter which had just been reported to a closed door session of the Senate. Standing atop the steps outside Senate, she relayed the incident to any who cared to listen, stating as her reason for doing so that the public had a right to know.
"A loyal and dedicated ship of our merchant fleet, the Lady Dane has been set upon by this supposedly altruistic ghost ship!" She shouted shaking her fists for further emphasis." Enshrouded in smoke, crewed by hideous undead and wielding powerful magics! It was thanks only to the timely arrival of our heroic warship, the Flaming Sword, that the Lady Dane managed to escape total and complete annihilation. The Emperor wanted to keep this danger to himself and not warn us! He seeks to keep the people ignorant and in danger!" Lady Harriet Walter's speech continued for many minutes before a detachment of the City Guard turned up and dispersed the crowd. Lady Walter was gently encouraged her to return to her home.
More information was made public after Lady Walter's address to the public. Most curiously was that the crew and passengers of theLady Dane appeared unable to remember a lot of the encounter clearly and expressed conflicting reports on certain important details. Amstern Chesney spokesman for the throne announced that the Emperor has asked respected members of both the clergy and the kingfishers to investigate and examine the survivors to see if they have been subjected to any untoward influence.
Amstern Chesney representing the throne (and covertly the Legion of the Steel) hires adventurers to investigate Lady Harriet Walter. The crown wishes to see if she is involved with ship and whether or not it is plot of a foreign power trying to destabilize the country.
