Palanthas – Jhonnas Quinnan has been made a Barron.

Last Majetag, Emperor Jaymes Markham's official spokesman Lord Amstern Chesney announced that the Emperor has decided elevate Jhonnas Quinnan to the nobility. This announcement has caused widespread consternation, frustration and even anger amongst the more traditional established families. There have even been unconfirmed reports that certain nobles would refuse to attend any imperial function that Quinnan himself was at. There has also been a considerable amount of negative commentary from the merchant guilds and even the ordinary citizens.

"This is an outrage," Baron von Sickenbaum said. "Either the emperor doesn't know about this man's foul past or he doesn't care. Either way, I'm not going sit back and watch a man who has owned gambling dens, drug dens, and fighting arenas. I even heard he murdered a young girl! Rest assured I'm going to have a chat with the emperor about this."

According to unnamed sources, Quinnan has been investigated numerous times, but never officially charged with any crimes. It is rumored by some that he was an agent of both the Thieves Guild and the Dark Knights, though neither of these rumors has never been confirmed officially.

It cannot be denied that Quinnan is a powerful player, not just in Palanthas, but also the world beyond and that his businesses supply a lot of jobs for our workers and goods for our people. Never-the-less it has left many to question Emperor Markham's judgment and wisdom is elevating Quinnan to the rank of Baron. And the privileges that come with the title, such as a seat on the Solamnic Senate.
