House of Broken Scales Set to Expand
by Heine Stick, Staff Writer
Palanthas - On Misham, local Hiddukite clerics set plans in motion which will see Hiddukel's temple in Palanthas become the tallest building in the Cityhome. The decision was made at a meeting in the House of Broken Scales.
"It's only natural that a religion which puts personal wealth and prosperity above all else should be represented by an architectural masterpiece," said cleric of Hiddukel Annia Blackscale. "Our current temple is, as you can see, rather modest, at least by our standards. When the reconstruction of the House of Broken Scales is finished it will be the tallest and the most beautiful building in Palanthas."
The Senate was expected to decline the temple's request to expand but in a surprising turn of events, the fifty senators voted unanimously in favor of expansion. This has led to many rumors and speculations that the Senate has been offered large sums of money by the temple but both the Senate and the clerics of Hiddukel deny such allegations.
"Absolutely not!" said Senator Quiranna Westgilt. "The mere notion that people can buy my vote is ludicrous and very insulting. Palanthas was built on the ideals of acceptance and tolerance. Indeed, Vinas Solamnus himself decreed that all religions should be represented in the Cityhome. The Song of Life tavern was rebuilt recently. Why shouldn't the House of Broken Scales be given the same courtesy?"
According to several merchants, the House of Broken Scales has already started acquiring materials for the expanded temple. Surprisingly enough, much of the equipment the clerics of Hiddukel have purchased has been of a scientific nature, meant for observatories and laboratories.
