Senate Announces the Postponement of Challenge of the Champions
by Gerrin, Staff Writer
Palanthas - This past week the Senate released their findings of a secret investigation into the Challenge of Champions competition. The Senate has ruled that the challenges laid out are too dangerous to be held. They will allow the Merchant's Guild time to review and reconstruct the challenges to a safer format.
"We just feel that there needs to be a better emphasis on safety," said Senator Tolin Swordbreaker. "If we can control what is going on here and ensure that nobody is going to be killed then we will give the go ahead. As it is, the Senate is postponing the event until the middle of Darkember."
The announcement came as a shock to several local businesses. Most of these businesses were preparing for an increased amount of traffic as people were reportedly traveling from all over Ansalon to witness the competition.
"This is absurd," said local tavern owner Rhag uth Tol. "I stocked up on food and ale for the competition expecting to be packed. Instead my cellars are full of food that will rot before we will have this thing, if the blasted Senate will let us."
The Merchants Guild was also taken back by the Senate ruling because according to the Merchants Guild the challenges have every safety precaution taken. Several members of the Merchants Guild met with the Senate last week and cited that it was too late to postpone the event as many local businesses have already planned for the event.
"I don't know what to say," said guild representative Tarl Malin. "We have over 30 groups scheduled to compete in the competition coming in from all over Ansalon. Now I will have to tell these folks that the Senate wants them to wait. I fear that several of these groups will now back out, as they have other commitments."
