Merchants Guild Threatens Price Rise
by Clive Squire, Staff Writer
Palanthas – The Merchants Guild has threatened that, unless attacks on their lucrative shipping lines stop, the price for a majority of goods being sold in the shops and markets of Palanthas will increase.
Tharid Stonebaker, the jovial innkeeper and merchant who owns and runs the Broken Axe Ale House and Supplies Procurer in Herald's Way said "We feel that the Senate isn't doing enough to ensure that our wares are being properly protected while they are within so-called controlled lands"
Stonebaker went on to say "If the Senate doesn't start applying some pressure to the Solamnic Knights to reinforce the trade routes, we'll have to start sending mercenaries out with every caravan and that'll double the prices for most goods, if not treble them!"
Devy Uth Kullun, senator and local businessman whose own caravan was one of the latest hit by the mysterious band, said "We [the Senate] are doing everything we possibly can! The Palanthas Senate has no authority over the city of Kalaman or other cities in Northern Solamnia that have been affected by this hit-and run band."
"The Senate has proposed that a reward be put forward to hire professional investigators to look into the caravan raids, but that is about all we can stretch to at the moment." Uth Kullun went on to say. "We are getting reports that at least one caravan is being attacked every couple of days. I, myself, lost a dozen crates of fine ale that was being shipped, cost me a princely sum I can tell you!"
