Sorcerer's Body Found Mutilated at Grove
by Clive Squire, Staff Writer
Palanthas - Citizens of Palanthas were alarmed to discover the decaying and mutilated corpse hanging from a tree just on the outskirts of the Shoikan Grove, the accursed magical grove of the former Tower of High Sorcery of Palanthas.
The body was immediately cut down by the City Guard and taken to the Halls of Healing for investigation and then proper burial. Jabkar Elizard, head priestess of the Healing Halls is quoted as being very disturbed by the 'state of desecration' of the body.
After priestess Elizard had performed several prayers for the as then unidentified body, the priestess declared that the body was that of the missing half-elven sorcerer, Leathae Yyllareth. The sorcerer disappeared last week under mysterious circumstances.
Priestess Elizard said "the Blessed Goddess [Mishakal] has given for me to know that this poor soul suffered greatly at the hands of evil in his final moments and that she has given him the rest that his soul deserves."
The head priestess then went on to say, "the body of Yyllareth had several deep lacerations and puncture wounds, many of them still containing sharp thorns." When prompted for information about these strange injuries, the priestess declared that she did not know and had no answer. Yyllareth will be buried later this week.
City Guard member, Devas Steelstrin, said that the corpse of Yyllareth looked like it had been hung out like a warning or a consequence to others, although he refused to say anything further, except that the city's sorcerers should remain calm and allow the City Guard to continue their investigation into Yyllareth's death.
The fate of Yyllareth has caused great concern among the city's growing sorcerer population. Many see his horrific murder as the start of a wave of such crimes geared against them, Geardo Downsman, local sorcerer and one time colleague of Yyllareth, said he would be monitoring the unfolding situation very carefully and warned that those responsible would be found out and brought to book over his friend's death.
