Trade with Tarsis Suspended
by Heine Stick, Staff Writer
Palanthas - Merchants from Palanthas have ceased all trade with Tarsis. This response to the Tarsis authorities arresting two Palanthian merchants was decided upon during a meeting in the Palanthas Merchants Guild yesterday.
"It's true that we've decided to cut all ties to Tarsis," said guild chairwoman Jena Uth Korrin. "Since the Senate has failed to support its merchants, we feel that we have to take action. In all, thirteen merchants have ceased all trade with Tarsis and we've dispatched messengers with orders for those caravans already on their way to Tarsis to turn around and head home."
Whether or not this decision will actually have any effect is doubtful but the Merchants Guild chairwoman says that this is really about getting the Senate's attention. "Of course we'll lose the income trade with Tarsis would bring but to us it's very important that we get the Senate's attention. They have the political presence to do something about this situation and force Tarsis to release our fellow merchants."
According to sources within the Senate, this action by the Merchants Guild has had an effect. Several senators have approached the Senate chairman to arrange a meeting with the Tarsis situation as the only topic of discussion.
