Tower Area Development Offer Falls Through
by Carteeg Struve, Staff Writer
Palanthas – After months of attempting to convince the Senate and Lord du Chagne to bestow them tax breaks in return for starting a number of businesses near the High Clerist's Tower, the six businessmen proposing the offer have finally withdrawn their request.
Group spokesman Gil Stoneshield (164) came public with his disappointment. "We had hoped that we'd be able to get the tax burden reduced so we could shift funds to start-up costs, but it looks like Palanthas is more interested in stripping its citizenry of every coin they get as soon as it possibly can."
Senator uth Fradeth, who oversaw the negotiations, told the Herald, "The number of incentives they were requesting were too much and unfair for the rest of the populace. We can only hope that other businesses will come and accept the offer that they have chosen to walk away from."
When asked what their next step was, Stoneshield answered, "Taxes are too high here for us to work. So my family and the others have no choice but to find someplace else, someplace that doesn't strangle entrepreneurs. That's how they seem to work things here. Crime goes up, and they cut school support and increase taxes and fees. Crime goes down, and they end the Golden Shield. But did you notice that the Senate isn't increasing funding to anything, and the taxes and fees haven't dropped? They must think we're stupid. Well, you can't tax someone who isn't under your roof. Our feet will have the final say in this."
