Witches Send Spirits Packing

Palanthas - A group of women calling themselves the Circle of the Living Krynn claim to have cleansed Winegaard Manor of the spirits inhabiting it.

For nearly 100 years Winegaard Manor has had a reputation as a haunted house. It was originally owned by the Winegaard Family. Jacen Winegaard, once a prominent member of the Senate, is said to have gone crazy one night and killed his wife and five children, before killing himself. The reason for this tragedy was never discovered.

Since then the house has changed owners many times, none of which retained ownership of it for long; most moved out within weeks of taking possession of the house. Every previous owner of the house reports hearing voices, strange noises, and even seeing ghostly figures. A young woman from Lemish named Meriette Freyorn recently purchased the house from the previous owner.

On Bakual Melody Penniweather, a woman hired by Freyorn to clean the house, reported seeing Meriette and twelve other women enter the house around Twelfth Watch. "I'd just spent all morning cleaning when Ms Freyorn and those other ladies came in," said Penniweather. "They came in and moved all the furniture in the drawing room up against the walls. One of them pulled out a bag and began to sprinkle something in a circle, all over my nice clean floor. Then all the ladies, including Ms Freyorn, sat inside the circle. I went back to my cleaning and heard Ms Freyorn say something followed by what I believed to be someone knocking on the door."

"I answered the door, but no one was there. I looked back at Ms Freyorn and noticed an old man snarling and cursing at the ladies. By the Platinum Dragon, I could see right through him! It got beastly cold in the room to boot. Ms Freyorn looked right at the man and said, 'It's time for you to move on.' The man didn't appear to like it one bit. Suddenly the man was surrounded by five children, and a woman who gestured to him from a white doorway. Don't ask me to explain where that came from. In any case, the children and the woman lead the man into the doorway and they all disappeared. I tell you I ain't ever seen nothing like that before."

Later when asked how they accomplished this feat, Meriette told the Herald, "We are witches, priestesses if you will, of the living Krynn. We originally resided in Lemish, but came here for religious freedom. I bought the house for the use of me and my sisters in the Circle of the Living Krynn. We knew it was unhealthy for the spirits to remain so we held a séance and encouraged them to go."
