Senate Divided on Mind-Reading Issue

Palanthas - Fierce debate rages in the Senate as the Mind Reading Proposal is considered. This debate has been going on in the Senate ever since Grayson Halliwell, of the Solamnic Auxillary introduced the proposal, nearly a month ago.

According to sources inside the Lord's Palace several prominent senators have succeeded in staging a filibuster to prevent a vote on the proposal from going forward. Chief among them is Senator Revas Miramar, who is quoted as saying, "If we allow this proposal to go forward, where does it end? Today it is only the gates to our fair city we are discussing, but what about tomorrow? Are we prepared to live in a city where some sort of mind-reading police roam the streets and the slightest thought could result in imprisonment or worse? I would rather have the Dark Knights back in control than see that happen."

The Herald's sources report that senator Miramar spoke at length for nearly four hours before growing hoarse and handing the podium over to Lord Benton Uth Fradeth.

Lord Benton proceeded to go on for two hours and is quoted as saying, "Mind reading is a nasty business. It was used during the time of the Kingpriest, and we all know the results of those actions. Inquisitions, disappearances, people losing their homes, their freedom. I am with my esteemed colleague, it would be far better to let the Dark Knights have the city back, than to allow a vote on this proposal. At least with them you knew who the enemy was."
