Burglar Thwarted by Mysterious Temple Guardian
by Trampas Whiteman, Staff Writer
Palanthas - The City Guard arrested Milo "the Mooch" Severson last Bracha on charges of breaking and entering and burglary at Paladine's Temple in the Temple District in New City. Severson, 34, has been arrested several times in the past on petty charges.
"The poor little bugger look like he had the stuffing knocked out of him," Sergeant Jerith Tolbareth said. "He had multiple bruises and lacerations. A few pieces of pottery were broken in the temple itself, but the Mooch never got to anything valuable. Seems the temple has a guardian of some sort who roughed him up, though the cleric isn't saying much. The Mooch just rambled on about 'the dragon.'"
"He must have seen a statue of Paladine," temple cleric Clarissa Thurston said. "I came down the stairs when I heard the pottery shatter. As far as I can tell, he just slipped and fell."
The City Guard tends to disagree with Thurston's analysis, stating that the injuries on Severson did not match with Thurston's story. Sergeant Tolbareth said that the Severson had burn marks, though he declined to comment on how Severson got the burn marks.
One witness claims to have seen something more. "I'm not quite sure how to describe it," Leela Havalar said. "It was tall as can be, and muscular. It wasn't human though. I saw him throw the burglar out of the window. I don't know what it was!"
Revered Daughter Thurston had no comment on the issue. The City Guard has questioned witnesses, but considers the case closed.
