Dark Queen's Shrine Destroyed
by Trampas Whiteman, Staff Writer
PALANTHAS - Yesterday, the Dark Queen's Shrine was destroyed by a mob led by a cleric of Kiri-Jolith. The edifice was built during the Dark Knight occupation by order of Sir Elstone Kinsaid.
"During the occupation, Kinsaid wanted to bring down the Temple of Paladine, but he couldn't," Palanthas city senator Davith Relos said. "The temple was just too important to Palanthas culture. So he built the Dark Queen's Shrine across the street. The shrine's shadow would dwarf the Temple of Paladine at twilight."
As the crowd approached the temple, they were met with protesters. Violence ensued when an angry mobster threw a rock at a protester. The city watch and a contingent of Knights of Solamnia were called on the scene to maintain order, with several arrests being made.
"Here we are in the most enlightened city in the world, and yet we still see religious discrimination," Balatos Dreyl said. "There are many gods in the world, and they should all be recognized. Just because Takhisis wasn't the most popular god, that doesn't mean we shouldn't honor her memory. If anything, they should have converted it into a museum."
"Good riddance," Marlo Toranar said. "That thing has been a blight on the city long enough. If the city has any common sense, they'll get rid of the other temple of Takhisis in New City as well!"
After order was restored, the Lord Regent himself approached the scene. Deeming the shrine to be an affront to the city and a painful reminder of the Dark Knight occupation, he ordered the work to continue, but in an orderly fashion.
The Knights of Solamnia summoned a bronze dragon, who lifted the statue of Takhisis and flew it to the Bay of Branchala, where it was sunk. The remainder of the shrine was torn down by sunset.
"This is a great victory for the citizens of Palanthas," Lord Michael Brightshield said. "The rule of the Dark Queen is at an end. Never more will Palanthas be under her heel or that of the Knights of Neraka."
"We have decided to donate the land the shrine was on, though we haven't decided who will get it yet," said Brightshield. "Rather than having oppressing shadows on our fair city, we shall give this land to someone who will build upon it."
