Dear Friends,

It is my sad duty to announce that Matthew Haag, known to us all as "Paladin," will be leaving the Whitestone Council and the Dragonlance Nexus. Though this announcement comes with a heavy heart, it also comes with the knowledge that Matt is moving on to new horizons and adventures.

Seven years ago, I had a dream. I wanted to keep Dragonlance gaming alive. During the chaotic process of getting the Whitestone Council going, I met Matt. Matt seemed to like my enthusiasm, but he had been around the block a lot more than me. He knew Dragonlance fans and fandom. We talked on the phone that first night for something like 45 minutes hashing out a plan. It was from that plan that the foundation of the Dragonlance Nexus was laid. The rest is history.

Matt is what I have often referred to as my "silent partner." Whereas I was the guy who worked with the public, he was the guy who put all of our plans into motion. It is through his work on the Dragonlance Nexus and that the Nexus is the wonder that it is today. Because of him, we have a massive art section, a place to post our own gaming rules, an unparalleled product section, a killer Lexicon, and so much more. Ever the tinker, Matt has always strove to make the Nexus bigger and brighter, improving the design constantly into the best incarnation yet.

If I am the heart of the Nexus, then Matt surely is the mind.

Above all, Matt has been a true and dear friend. We have shared much in the last seven years. He has stood by me through thick and thin, aiding me when I needed it, yet knowing when to temper my enthusiasm with his brand of common sense. We have ever been a great team, and I've enjoyed that relationship tremendously. He has served as my inspiration. Recently, I decided to go back to school, and it is because of Matt that I chose web graphics design as a major.

Truly, Matt Haag's alias of Paladin is dead on. He has a noble heart, and is a good man. I hope you will join me in raising a glass in toast of Matt.

Though this is farewell, this is not goodbye. We will meet again in the Inn of the Last Home. Matt, may all your adventures begin by going out through the kitchen.
