Groller is in pain, his suffering resonates from a memory he relives every waking moment. This memory interrupts his sleep, and still cuts as deep as the experience that changed his life.
He had a happy life once.
He was married to a human woman, Maethrel, who bore him a daughter and was heavy with their second child. Yes he was pleased that he, a seven foot Half- Ogre could fit in. In fact he was thought of as caring, amiable, liked by everyone in his village. Once.
A green dragon changed his life in a breath, acidic breath in fact, that destroyed all he loved in a terrible instant. As he watched his wife and daughter suffer. Their dying screams piercing his soul. Time slowed down as he ran towards them, unable to make any difference to the event that broke his heart.
He prayed to all the gods for silence, and it was granted. Groller became deaf and although he never forgot those screams, he was also unaware how much attention his prayer had attracted.
At once he knew the familiar sights and smells of home would only continue to remind him of his personal hell, so he left his home and traveled from Kern with purpose.
Groller sought out a Monastery runs by Monks of Majere, hoping that rigorous disclipline would fill the void in his chest. This proved successful as he was a dedicated student, his focus made his teachers proud, and gave Groller a reason for his self-loathing to ease.
But he was never happy.
He woke from restless sleep night after night, and never could piece together the fragments of dreams that plagued him, so many variants of what he could have done or should have done until one night, no insects, animals or colored geometric shapes whirled in his mind.
Instead a great crimson bird spoke with Groller, mind to mind, and shared the thought that his life could not be anything else while he looked back, to evolve and thrive he was to look forward. To take the knowledge he had learned out into the world, to bring Order to Chaos.
This dream affected Groller to his core, he was no longer the sensitive, thoughtful half-ogre that left Kern, his long time immersion in his training had transformed him into a bastion of Law.
He was not driven to evil, far from it, but he was on a path to purge his soul for his need for justice.
A quote he read from a human religious text fuelled the flames in his heart, turning a once small coal into a raging cleansing pyre.
In the silence of his mind the words still echo, "I will strike down with great vengeance and furious anger, those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the LAW, when I lay my vengeance upon thee."
This is a look at what Groller Dagmar may have become had Takhisis not stolen the world.
