Kiaz stands just over seven feet tall, his powerful frame covered in azure blue scales. Massive draconic wings sprout from his shoulders and his long tail allows him to keep his balance in difficult circumstances. The lightning draconian's eyes are icy blue.
One would be hard pressed to find a kinder person than Kiaz. Despite his early experiences in the slave camps of the White Dragonarmy, or perhaps because of his experiences, he cares deeply about everyone's right to live how they choose. He despises tyranny and slavery and will do anything short of giving up his own freedom to thwart such endeavors.
A product of the cruelty and sadism that was the order of the day in the Dragonarmy slave camps, Kiaz fears becoming a slave more than anything else and he'll rather die than let anyone put an iron collar around his neck again. This fear of slavery has made him very cautious when dealing with others and he goes out of his way to avoid contact with anyone.
The exception to the rule is the minotaur Martok. Kiaz and Martok both experienced the evil of the Dragonarmies and the two formed a friendship which only grew stronger after they'd gained their freedom. Now they were both free in a world that didn't want them. Kiaz would gladly sacrifice his life for his minotaur friend.
In the last days of the War of the Lance, the Dragonarmies were pressed on all sides, losing battle after battle. The armies were stretched thin, fighting on many fronts. In an act of desperation it was decided to use the eggs of chromatic dragons in the dark rituals in which draconians were born in an effort to boost the armies. The draconians spawned by the foul rituals were quickly dispatched to the front, the color of their scales and their strange behavior all but ignored by those who commanded them.
Kiaz was one of those draconians. Born of the egg of a blue dragon, he grew into an azure-scaled dragonman. He quickly developed a sense of justice and distaste for the way his brothers and sisters were treated. His superiors noticed his defiance and, in an effort to break his rebellious spirit, sent him to Icereach, to the infamous slave camps of the White Dragonarmy. Once there he was quickly assigned to a company of slave soldiers comprised of a mix of minotaurs, humans, dark dwarves, and other unwanted elements whose only purpose was to be cannon fodder in the battles against the ice barbarians.
Kiaz's commander was a sadistic brute of an ogre named Roten. The ogre slave master and his human lieutenants ran the company with an iron fist, punishing disobedience with whippings and extreme torture. Many a man lost an eye or a limb for no other reason than looking at the ogre brute in the wrong way. Losing men to his sadistic pleasures mattered little to Roten since reinforcements arrived daily.
The lightning draconian was heartbroken by the horrors and the pain inflicted upon his fellow slave soldiers and he worked tirelessly to ease their suffering, using whatever was at hand to mend injuries and dress wounds. One such soldier was Martok, a minotaur. Martok had been caught trying to escape and as punishment Roten had removed the minotaur's left eye. Kiaz spent weeks tending to the wound where the eye had once been as much as the minotaur's grieving heart, whispering words of comfort and friendship. The two developed a close friendship and they fought together in the few campaigns they participated in, fueled by a desire to see each other survive the war.
The War of the Lance ended with a resounding defeat for the White Dragonarmy. Thousands were killed in the final days of the war and even more captured. Kiaz and Martok managed to escape the resulting chaos and in the following weeks, they dodged ice barbarians, thanoi raiders, and Whitestone patrols to make it out of the Icewall Glacier.
The two eventually found an abandoned out-of-the-way cottage a couple of days' travel northeast of the Lordcity of Tarsis which they made their home. The two live there to this day, minding their own business and living in willing isolation, hoping that the world will forget about them...
Made using my conversions of the d20 Lightning Draconian racial levels found in Dragons of Krynn. Instead of levels though I opted to go with modified dragon age categories.
