Darewind was an ambitious young mariner who found her way into serving Lord Ariakan in the lead in to the Summer of Chaos. She rose steadily through the ranks of mercenary pirates that were in the service to the Dark Knights, eventually joining them as a Knight of the Lily and captaining several boats.
Just before the Summer of Chaos she became captain to her favourite ship, the Wavecutter, a fast single-masted small sloop. She patrolled the Bay of Branchala. During the War she took control over the Dark Knight seagoing troops that did not make it to the High Clerist's Tower.
Captain Waverunner does not sport the normal armour associated with the Dark Knights, instead she favours the style of those that ply the sea, wearing a pair of loose fitting breeches and shirt with a wide sash wrapped around her waist (stashed with a couple of daggers), over which hangs her pride and only open weapon – a finely etched scimitar.
Darewind, like many Dark Knights, is a capable and driven individual. She is an extremely fine seaman and loves being out on the open waters, feeling that land life is a little confining and oppressive. She understands that to achieve her goals she must work hard and prefers to get her positions through that hard work, not through favouritism.
