Captain Afftar, although of age he still seems more of a boy than a man. He has a thin coating of fuzz on his chin and cheeks, although not enough to qualify for a beard. He speaks in a rather squeaky, high-pitched voice, another sign of his youth.
Afftar was born and raised in the Solamnic city of Maelgoth. Always an outgoing lad, Afftar spent most of the days of his childhood wandering the cities streets and lands about it. Ahe loved to sit with the seasoned soldiers at their campsites and listen to the legends of Solamnia, such as the perfect knight, Huma.
Being too young to join in the rebellion against the Dragonarmies during the War of the Lance, Afftar eagerly joined the city guards of Maelgoth just prior to the Summer of Chaos.
As an eager recruit, Afftar was soon recognised by the Mayor of Maelgoth, Karango, and he rose to the position of Captain of the Guard. During the early part of the Chaos War, he led the vastly inexperienced guards against the horrifying creatures of Chaos that attacked the city.
Afftar is in awe of powerful figures, whether they are physically powerful, such as Huma or charismatically powerful, like Mayor Karango. Afftar has a huge case of hero worship and is trying to emulate the heroes of legend that he heard around the campfires as a boy. Being a Solamnic, he was raised on stories of Huma and the Knights of Solamnia, the Golden General and her liberation during the War of the Lance.
In Your Campaign:
Captain Afftar can be a useful character for any party travelling through the Plains of Solamnia around the city of Maelgoth. His knowledge of the local area can be invaluable to those planning to travel on, perhaps to other Solamnic cities such as Vingaard Keep or Kalaman and are seeking the safest way to travel through the Plains of Solamnia around Maelgoth.
