The two learned in the ways of the Knights of Solamnia together, but took different paths. Charles came into the possession of the Dagger of Jealousy during the War of the Lance. The Dagger has driven him mad with paranoia and vengeance. Eventually, his cousin Derek died in the War. Charles blamed Sturm Brightblade, but could not exact vengeance since he had died at the High Clerist's Tower. Charles eventually had his chance for revenge, when he stole the Brightblade from Sturm's tomb. He was eventually discovered by Erastin Rivenguard, a prospective knight, and his companions. Charles was slain in combat with Erastin, and the Brightblade was recovered.
