Thought Handlers are the creations of former Solamnic Auxiliary member Grayson Halliwell. In response to the rampant criminal activity and scads of kender visitors to Palanthas, Halliwell proposed reading the minds of those who enter the city gates. His efforts were refused. Halliwell got around the ban on mind reading though and experimented on several dozen incarcerated kender tagging them with an arcane symbol that would allow them to detect the thoughts of others and then relay those thoughts. Unfortunately, Halliwell disappeared before he could remove the symbols, thus the thought handler is here to stay.
"Thought Handler" is an acquired template that can be added to any kender (referred to hereafter as the base creature).
A thought handler uses all the base creature's statistics and special abilities, except as noted here.
Size and Type: The creature's size and type are unchanged. Do not recalculate base attack bonus, saves, or skill points.
Saves: A thought handler gains a +2 bonus on all saving throws. Reading the thoughts of others makes him better able to avoid dangers targeted against him.
Hit Dice: The creature's hit dice are unchanged.
Speed: The creature's speed is unchanged.
Armor Class: The thought handler gets a +2 insight bonus to Armor Class. Reading the thoughts of others makes him better able to avoid dangers targeted against him.
Attack: A thought handler retains all the attacks of the base creature.
Special Attacks: A thought handler retains all the special attacks of the base creature.
Special Qualities: A thought handler retains all the special qualities of the base creature and gains those described below.
Detect Thoughts (Su): A thought handler continuously uses detect thoughts as the spell (caster level 18th; Will DC 13 negates). In most cases the thought handler doesn't even realize it is reading people's thoughts, it does so unconsciously; much like a normal kender handles interesting objects. The thought handler has no control over this ability. When the thought handler handles a thought, the symbol on the back of his neck itches.
Running Commentary (Su): A thought handler suffers from a compulsion to report on the thoughts he handles. This results in him telling the nearest person the secret thoughts of others. He may resist this compulsion with a DC 18 Will Save.
Abilities: There is no change to the base creature's ability scores.
Skills: Thought handlers have a +10 bonus on Sense Motive checks. It is difficult to hide one's true intentions when the thought handler can pick those intentions from one's mind. Otherwise, same as base creature.
Feats: Thought handlers get Improved Initiative to represent their ability to react quickly
Environment: Although thought handlers originated in Palanthas, they have spread now to every corner of Ansalon.
Organization: Solitary, pair, or mob
Challenge Rating: As the base creature +1
Treasure: As base creature
Alignment: As base creature.
Level Adjustment: Same as base creature +2
