Onysablet the Black
D&D 3e (3.0/3.5) Rules
Colossal Black Dragon (Water)
* Onysablet is a unique creature.
Sable (as she is known to mortals) is a dull, dusky black dragon close to one hundred and twenty feet long, with a tail that adds an additional hundred feet to her length. Her yellow eyes glow in dim light, and she can twitch her wickedly sharp, downswept horns. When angered, Onysablet's yellow eyes flash, and acid drips from her fanged maw.
Onysablet dwells in the New Swamp that lies between the east coast of New Sea and the Khalkist Mountains. She resents intrusion into her realm, and is angered by those who disturb her. Onysablet is strong-willed and impulsive, but less impulsive and more given to contemplation than lesser black dragons.
Onysablet is usually too involved in her own affairs to seek out combat with lesser beings, and will often be distracted, even surprised, by unprovoked attacks made by opponents. However, such attacks only serve to inspire greater anger in the black dragon, and she typically responds by using her acid breath weapon against offending opponents.
Breath Weapon (Su): Onysablet's breath weapon is a line of acid, 160 feet long. Creatures caught in this area suffer 26d4 points of damage (Reflex save halves, DC 40).
Frightful Presence (Ex): Onysablet can unsettle foes whenever she attacks, charges, or flies overhead. Creatures within a radius of 390 feet are subject to the fear if they have fewer than 40 HD.
An opponent that succeeds at a Will save (DC 36) remains immune to her fearful presence for one day. On a failure, creatures with 4 or fewer HD become panicked for 4d6 rounds and those with 5 or more HD become shaken for 4d6 rounds.
Water Breathing (Ex): Onysablet can breathe underwater indefinitely and can freely use her breath weapon, spells, and other abilities while submerged.
Immunities (Ex): Onysablet is immune to sleep and paralysis effects.
Corrupt Water (Sp): Once per day Onysablet can stagnate 10 cubic feet of water, making it become still, foul, and unable to support animal life. The ability spoils liquids containing water. Magic items (such as potions) and items in a creature's possession must succeed at a Will save (DC 36) or become fouled.
Charm Reptiles (Sp): Onysablet can use this ability three times per day. It operates as a mass charm spell that works only on reptilian animals and humanoids. Onysablet can communicate with any charmed reptiles as though casting a speak with animals spell.
Spells: Onysablet can cast arcane spells as a 17th level sorcerer, with access to the domains of Hydromancy, Spectramancy, and Transmutation; she can also cast spells from the Mysticism domain of Animism as arcane spells (save DC 16 + spell level). See Magic in the Fifth Age for details on Fifth Age sorcery.
Spell-Like Abilities: 3/day—darkness (110 feet radius), insect plague; 1/day—plant growth. These are as the spells cast by a 17th level sorcerer (save DC 16 + spell level).
Tail Sweep (Ex): Onysablet can sweep with her tail as a standard action, affecting a half circle with a radius of 30 feet, centred on her rear. Creatures within the swept area are affected if they are Small or smaller. The sweep automatically deals 2d8+18 points of damage; affected creatures can attempt Reflex saves to take half damage (DC 40).
Blindsight (Ex): Onysablet can ascertain creatures by nonvisual means with a range of 390 feet.
Keen Senses (Ex): Onysablet sees four times as well as a human in low-light conditions and twice as well in normal light. She also has darkvision with a range of 1,300 feet.
