Malystryx was the first of the great Dragons to come to Ansalon from across the sea at the beginning of the Age of Mortals. This megalomaniacal monster stretches more than four hundred feet from snout to tail, with her batlike wingspan reaching almost five hundred feet. Her sleek reptilian form is covered with deep red scales, each as large as a shield and as hard as steel.

Combat

Malystryx is a supremely self-confident and vain creature, considering even the most powerful opponent to be a mere irritation. Her raw fury and incredible power always propel her to victory. Malystryx enjoys making shows of her overwhelming physical strength and flaming breath, and will destroy most opponents with physical attacks rather than bring her arcane powers to bear. Malystryx never considers the possibility that an opponent might thwart her schemes, thus she never plans escapes or fall-back positions.

Breath Weapon (Su): Malystryx's breath weapon is a cone of fire 90 feet long. Creatures caught in the cone suffer 28d10 fire damage (Reflex save halves, DC 45).

Frightful Presence (Ex): Malystryx can unsettle foes whenever she attacks, charges, or flies overhead. Creatures within a radius of 420 feet are subject to the fear if they have fewer than 46 HD.

An opponent that succeeds at a Will save (DC 43) remains immune to her fearful presence for one day. On a failure, creatures with 4 or fewer HD become panicked for 4d6 rounds and those with 5 or more HD become shaken for 4d6 rounds.

Fire Subtype (Ex): Fire immunity, double damage from cold except on a successful save.

Immunities (Ex): Malystryx is immune to sleep and paralysis effects.

Spells: Malystryx casts arcane spells as a 19th-level sorcerer (save DC 20 + spell level). She has access to the domains of Divination, Geomancy, and Pyromancy, and can also cast spells from the domain of Mentalism as arcane spells. See Magic in the Fifth Age for details on Fifth Age sorcery.

Spell-Like Abilities: 14/day— locate object; 3/day — suggestion; 1/day — discern location, find the path. These are as the spells cast by a 19th level sorcerer (save DC 20 + spell level).

Tail Sweep (Ex): Malystryx can sweep with her tail as a standard action, affecting a half circle with a radius of 40 feet, centred on her rear. Creatures within the swept area are affected if they are Medium-size or smaller. The sweep automatically deals 2d8+30 points of damage; affected creatures can attempt Reflex saves to take half damage (DC 45).

Blindsight (Ex): Malystryx can ascertain creatures by nonvisual means with a range of 420 feet.

Keen Senses (Ex): Malystryx sees four times as well as a human in low-light conditions and twice as well in normal light. She also has darkvision with a range of 1,400 feet.
